30 Years

April 1, 2018

Our beautiful dental office on Atlantic Avenue is now 30 years old!  We watched the building go up from our original office across the street and endured two extensive remodels!

Happy Birthday 823 Atlantic Avenue!

Promise Honored

September 30, 2017

My son’s gift to me this year was a hiking trip to Glacier National Park in Montana .  What was so special was his promise to hike at my pace.  Michael is a strong fit 24 year x swimmer and current rock climber.  He adds a mental and physical  intensity to everything he does.  I am a 61 year old dentist with two broken toes and an inconsistent and “light” exercise routine.  I would not have stood a chance if not for this “promise”.

What a present!  What a promise!!

Michael warned me that it would be hard and not fun if I did not get into better shape. With the encouragement of Kyle, one of the trainers at the Equinox gym, I worked out almost every day.  Treadmill, Stair master , Spin Classes, light jogs.

I am writing this blog so it is apparent that we survived the mountain.  The first day was the longest hike and despite blistered feet, I finished in a reasonable time.  Michael left once to explore an additional trail with no consequences. The second day involved a change of plans.  The fires raging below us dictated that we find a safer trail.  Michael found a narrow trail and we proceeded.   At a fork in the path, he wanted to take the road to the top, one that would give him a view to one of the Glaciers.  We separated and his plan was that we would meet on the trail, he on his way down and me still going up. Later we found out that this was Bear Country and it was not advisable to travel alone !

We had a great trip. Michael knew my limitations and accepted them.  I am looking forward to our next adventure.  Mount Fuji ?

Promise Honored.

I love my son.

Maddie graduated The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing this weekend.  It was a great party.  We love our children and are very proud of their accomplishments. We were happy to support them through universities of their choice.  We celebrated their successes  and consoled them on  their setbacks.

There are no more big tuition checks to write each semester!

We are done!

Happy Holidays to all my family, friends and patients!

The holiday season has arrived!  Do you have visitors from out of town coming to stay with you for awhile?  For most of us the answer is an affirmative yes!  We live in beautiful Southern California and they simply do not!  Are you looking for ways to entertain them when the celebrations and family traditions are over?  My standard one day diversion is a bicycle ride to the Frozen Banana/Balboa Bar stand on Balboa Island.  It involves a beach cruising bike ride, an inexpensive ferry boat crossing, a decorated waterfront home stroll, a  people watching shopping area and finally the reward for putting up with me, a FROZEN BANANA made to order and very delicious!

However you choose to celebrate, HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY!

Many of my dental patients may have been wondering why I was unavailable most of August this year. My last blog detailed our family’s annual vacation. This year we spent three weeks in beautiful Iceland. When we returned, I fulfilled a promise to drive with my son to his first job.

1300 miles and three days later we arrived in Seattle, Washington.  The rest of the family flew up to  help Michael set up his new apartment and do some sightseeing.

The drive was arduous and the time away from my office was costly but what a great opportunity to spend time with my son as he embarks on the next stage of his life.

Listen To Your Doctor

I would love to be writing about something else in my monthly blog but these photographs of the x-rays taken of my right foot are the only images that come to mind.  I suffered a stress fracture of my second metatarsal walking home from a restaurant on New Year’s eve in dress shoes.  I knew something was awry when the sickening sound of a chicken bone breaking was followed by a stabbing unrelenting pain.  I endured the six remaining blocks and was examined at urgent care a couple of days later.  The diagnosis was good.  I only had to wear this flat shoe for six weeks and limit all activity on the foot.  Three weeks later, everything was feeling better.  Against doctors orders I resumed easy workouts at the gym and wore regular shoes to work.  The result, a fracture of the third metatarsal and a displacement of the original fracture.

The  end of the year means your children are out of school and available to come to our office for their semiannual dental checkups and hygiene visits.

My family is no exception.  Both Maddie, my daughter and Michael, my son are shown at their appointments.

This year both children needed some dental work.  We treat our children the same as we treat your children.

We try to prevent the need for extensive dental work with frequent exams and teeth cleanings, digital x-rays,  sealants and fluoride treatments.

Let’s make 2015 a great one.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
